The Knesset has approved a three-month extension for various permits and regulatory approvals due to Operation 'Shagat HaAri'. This extension, effective from February 28, 2026, to May 31, 2026, includes building permits and timelines for homeowners upgrading their residences. These homeowners can now hold two properties without being classified as investors, provided they sell their old property within the deadlines set by real estate tax law. For properties purchased between June 1, 2023, and May 31, 2025, the period is 18 months, and 24 months for those purchased after June 1, 2025. For purchases from developers, the period is one year after delivery. According to the Tax Authority, if the period includes a date between February 28, 2026, and May 31, 2026, the final sale date is postponed to August 31, 2026, or three months after the original date, whichever is later.
