Severe Worker Shortage in the Renovation Sector

Israel's renovation sector is facing a critical shortage of 15,000 workers, worsened by recent missile attacks that have left around 4,100 damaged homes unrepaired. According to Eran Siv, Chairman of the Renovation Contractors Association, the state has failed to take necessary actions to address this crisis, despite lessons from previous attacks. Victims of the attacks will bear the cost of this oversight. The situation is further complicated by a lack of skilled labor, partly due to restrictions on Palestinian workers, leading to record-high construction costs. Efforts to train new renovation contractors are underway, but challenges remain, particularly in integrating new worker groups, such as the ultra-Orthodox, into the sector.
