50% of Homes Allocated to Reservists, 100% for Rental

The Israel Land Authority Council (RMI) has approved a new housing allocation policy favoring Israeli army reservists. Now, 50% of homes offered in government lotteries will be reserved for reservists, with full priority for long-term rental housing. This decision follows Naftali Bennett's promise to provide housing benefits to reservists if he formed a government. However, in ultra-Orthodox communities, this priority is limited to 35% of homes. The measure has sparked criticism, with some viewing it as unfair discrimination. Supporters argue that rewarding patriotism and supporting those who serve the country is crucial, while opponents criticize the unequal treatment of citizens. This policy highlights the social and political tensions surrounding resource allocation in Israel.
